Colin: The Goal Post

December 31, 2007

They say that setting realistic goals is the first step on the road to success.  In the last year or so I have had some fuzzy goals for my weight, fitness and health.  Goals like: “I’ll work out 3 times a week”, or: “I’ll keep my weight under XXX pounds”.

Unfortunately these goals are often trumped by short term (and much more realistic) goals, like: “I’ll watch this football game while consuming a bag of potato chips”.

 Ultimately, I want to:

  • maintain a healthy weight and be physically fit.
  • fit into my clothes without buying new ones.
  • get out of bad habits such as eating junk, eating when I’m not hungry and generally being lazy.

For now, I am going to set only goals for my weight and make my approach to reaching them be free-form.  I will document my successes or failures in subsequent posts.

I am currently on the road and away from my scale, so I’m going to set a goal of losing 2 pounds per week for the next 8 weeks.  If I lose 3 pounds in one week and 1 pound in the next, that will be OK as long as the overall average is 2 pounds per week or 16 pounds in 8 weeks.

My first weigh-in will be on January 3rd.  I will weigh myself and report back here with the measurment taken every Thursday morning for the next 8 weeks.

Wish me luck!

Let the Gains End

December 29, 2007

Welcome!  This is the blog of John Howard and Colin Phillips.  We are fat.  Not “The Biggest Loser” fat, but fatter than we want to be.  We are also weak willed.

The point of this blog is to provide a diary of our weight loss, to make a game of it and to have a forum for smack talk.  We each have goals and those will be subject of our first individual posts.

If you care, you are welcome to follow our journeys from somewhat sedentary couch potatoes to svelte, fit specimens of manhood.

There are no real rules to the game, other than these:

  • Weight should go down, rather than up.
  • Weekly posting is mandatory.  More is better.
  • Confession is encouraged.
